Staying Warm and Stylish with the Finisterre Women’s Penrose Sweater

When I’m on the road, staying warm is a top priority. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a camping trip or a frigid airplane ride; if I get cold, the fun ends. Luckily, when I’m wearing my Women’s Penrose Sweater by Finisterre, I stay cozy and enjoy feeling a bit stylish. As someone who values both comfort and style, I was excited to try out this sweater and see how it would perform in different settings.

Soft, Cozy, and Good Looking

Said to be inspired by heritage fisherman’s sweaters, the Penrose Sweater is knit with 100% extra fine merino wool. The result is a soft sweater that keeps you warm, but still breathes. I was impressed by the quality of the material and how it felt against my skin. The high neck looks good without being itchy or irritating, and the saddle shoulder detail adds a little pizzazz. I like that I can throw it on with a pair of joggers for a long plane ride or dress it up with a pair of jeans.

For those not familiar with the Finisterre brand, it’s based in the United Kingdom and was started in 2003 with a focus on creating products for “hardy British surfers.” In 2018, it became the first outdoor apparel brand in Europe to earn B Corp Certification. This certification is a testament to the brand’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, which is something that I, as a consumer, appreciate and look for in the brands I support.

Care and Sizing

I throw the sweater in the washing machine without concern, then simply lay it flat to dry on a level drying rack. The Penrose Sweater has a bit of a boxy shape. I tend to like my sweaters on the baggy side, so I didn’t have any issues, but if you prefer more of a polished fit, I’d consider sizing down. (For reference, I’m 5’7″, 140 pounds wearing a UK 12, EU 40, US 8.)

Finisterre’s Women’s Penrose Sweater comes in two colors: Earth and Navy. I’d love to see more options added to the mix. Cost is $160 on the Finisterre website. (At time of review, the total amount included all applicable U.S. customs duties and taxes.) A dedicated U.S. returns portal streamlines refunds when needed; (Sweaters must be in unworn condition with the tags intact.) However, there is a $15 flat rate to cover shipping back to the UK. If you have an REI Co-op nearby, it’s worth checking to see if they have any sweaters in-store. Though you may not find the style or color you are looking for, if you’re concerned about sizing it might help you make decisions with a bit more confidence.

Overall, I’m impressed with the Finisterre Women’s Penrose Sweater and would recommend it to anyone looking for a warm, stylish, and responsibly-made sweater. For more information, check out the full review Here
